This two-hour course (core credit) will assist realtors in becoming more familiar with water rights and Utah water law. The first hour of the course focuses on terminology associated with water rights, principal concepts of Utah water law, components of a water right, and the application process with the Utah Division of Water Rights. The second hour of the course focuses on how water rights are conveyed, including conveyance by deed, conveyance by appurtenance, reports of conveyance to update title with the Utah Division of Water Rights, water right deed addendums, and water right title insurance.

Jeff Gittins
Jeffry R. Gittins is a partner at the law firm of Smith Hartvigsen PLLC, where he practices primarily in the area of water law. He assists governmental entities, corporations, and private individuals in all aspects of water law, including water rights transactions, water rights analysis, and water rights litigation. Jeff graduated as valedictorian from Utah State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness and Business. He received his J.D. from Brigham Young University Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the BYU Law Review.
